Temperature & Pressure Relief Valve (AWYA-15/AWYA-20)
Designed and checked Based on Australia AS1357.1-2009 Standard.
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS of PRESSURE and TEMPERATURE RELIEF VALVES for STORAGE WATER HEATERS:
The valves should be installed by a licensed plumber.
To ensure prolonged proper function, It is recommended to install a strainer when impurities are present.
Install only approved pressure and temperature relief valves in accordance with National Plumbing and Drainage code AS/NZS3500, and Gas installation to AS5601 , ensure the pressure storage water heaters is approved under AS/NZS3498 and carries the appropriate approval mark.
The set pressure (in KPa) of the Pressure and Temperature relief valve shall not be greater than the maximum working pressure of the water heater and will open at a temperature prior to water temperature exceeding 99*C allowing discharge of water.
Should the protruding temperature probe at the inlet be damaged or bent, DO NOT INSTALL , obtain a replacement valve.
ensure the valve and water heater connections are clean , apply a PTFE sealing tape to the male taper thread of the valve, making sure that the tape does not hang over the outer end of the thread, as this can lead to premature valve failure.
Screw the valve into the heater socket. If the valve is horizontal, the drain outlet must face vertically downwards.
No valves, taps, or other isolating devices are to be fitted between the Temperature and Pressure relief valve and the water heater.
Install the Drain Line according to the National Plumbing and Drainage code AS/NZS3500.4
to match the nominal size of the valve (see Valve Specifications)
Caution: the Drain Pipe must NOT be sealed or blocked. If blockage occurs, the auxiliary pressure relief device will discharge water.
WATER INLET PRESSURE CONTROL:
High inlet pressure may cause excessive discharge and possible premature failure of the relief valve.
the maximum inlet water pressure must not exceed 80% of the nominal set pressure of the operating relief valve, if required a cold water expansion control valve, when fitted will have a lower set pressure than the Pressure and Temperature relief valve .
The following table shows the correct choice of preset pressure inlet control valve for a variety of excess mains supply pressures:
Max Inlet Water Pressure Set pressure of Set Pressure
Without Inlet Control Relief valve Pressure Limiting Valve
1120kPa 1400kPa 500or 600kPa
960kPa 1200kPa 500or 600kPa
800kPa 1000kPa 500or 600kPa
680kPa 850kPa 350or 500kPa
560kPa 700kPa 350kPa
440kPa 550kPa 350kPa
The maximum inlet water pressure relates to the period of lowest water usage, this usually occurs during the night
OPERATING of TEMPERATURE & PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE:
The valve is designed to relieve excess pressure which may develop during the normal heating cycle. The valve will drip to relieve pressure. This is caused by the cold water expanding during the heating cycle.
Should the heater continue to over-heat the water, the temperature probe will be activated and open the relief valve, discharging hot water.
To ensure proper functioning of the pressure and temperature relief valve, lift the easing gear at regular intervals and observe the discharge of the drain pipe and a positive resetting.
Caution: Prior to activating the lifting gear, ensure the auxiliary relief valve discharge outlet is facing away from the lifting gear to avoid scalding if the drain pipe should be blocked and activates the auxiliary relief valve.
